Alpha•Dot has been re-uniting people with their possessions for over 15 years
Marking property is top advice from the police and Home Office for one simple reason, if the worst happens, how would the police ever know it's yours?
Alpha•Dot and Alpha Trace were set up to prevent theft and to help prosecute thieves.
Police use the Alpha•Dot system throughout the UK in fighting crime. In North London, Camden Community Safety Partnership used Alpha•Dot to beat a massive spate of stolen BMW car bumpers; in Bradford, an entire local community who suffered a wave of robberies were all provided with Alpha•Dot which was used to convict the thieves.
“Police have just told me to mark up all my stock with Alpha Dot” said one long suffering retailer who had been badly hit by shoplifting “I’ve lost thousands of pounds to one gang alone, I’m certain who it is, but police need to prove it”
And it does work. So often, an organised gang will target an area, and police suspect – but simply can’t prove – they are to blame. By using Alpha•Dot in a sting operation police only needed to find one dot to prove theft, the gang had to find and remove all the dots, an impossible task, result… Caught red handed.
A West Midlands stolen vehicle squad officer recently investigated an extremely under priced Motorcycle for sale on eBay; “I found three different parts each with a different PIN number” he said. “That Bike was rebuilt entirely of stolen parts, and was a potential death trap”.
“I was lucky to get my trail bike back, I’d left it in the park and it was gone when I went back to it” said Sean (aged 14) from Hull. “When the police found it about a week later they knew who to give it back to.”
